Saving Yesterday For Tomorrow

We’re talking about the lady on the left (in the glittery outfit). Recognise her? She’s none other than Sakura Teng – the Go-go Queen from the 1970s. Do you remember her? Were you a fan?

  1. Ipoh Remembered says:

    Remember her? Yes, vaguely.

If I recall correctly, she sometimes sang and yodeled in Japanese (if such a thing is possible).

By the way, the other woman in the photograph looks like Rita Chao. Was the photograph taken in Penang, by any chance?

  2. felicia says:

    Hi Ipoh Remembered,
We don’t think this was taken in Penang…considering that our donor is from Ipoh.
As for the other lady in the photograph, you might be right. I’m not familiar with these ladies…..( before my time ;) )

  3. Ipoh Remembered says:

I’m not familiar with these ladies

Well, they sometimes performed together in those days.

Rita died a few years ago but Sakura, as far as I know, is still alive.

Sakura’s daughter was working in the World Trade Center in New York on 9/11. Not only did she survive, she helped other survivors; after which, still angry at the attackers, she joined the United States Air Force. (She has her own children now and is no longer in the military.)
