Saving Yesterday For Tomorrow

blog_29 Dec

For those who are still wondering, her name is Lin Dai. Here she is featured on a Shaw Brothers Calendar – for the month of January, 1963.

What we’d like to know is: if YOU had a chance to produce a calendar with pictures of celebrities, who would you feature? You’re allowed to have more than one celebrity-crush, of course…come on, tell us…don’t be shy ;)

    Hi Christopher,

I thought it is supposed to be a ‘guessing format’ like it used to be.

Anyway, her face was familiar but I could not remember her name. I am sure I have watched many of her movies over the years.

As for the calendar thing, I would not be shy to choose Marylin Monroe as one of the calendar girls.
But then she was not one of my idols either. HaHaHa. Seriously, her name just came to my mind when you popped the question.

      Hi,

I should have read a little more about Lin Dai earlier before posting my comments.

She tragically died very young, age 33, apparently from suicide. The ending was not much different from Marylin Monroe.

Their personal life were far from a happy one, being used and abused. In the end depression took their lives.

Their beauty was being exploited and on screen, they were portrayed as very successful and oozing with happiness.

Sadly many celebrities end in the way they did, just like the young Korean pop star a few weeks ago.

I had a distant relative, who was an up and coming stage singer in his early twenties in Malaysia, who also committed suicide.

  2. Ipoh Remembered says:

    who would you feature?

A Dato Panglima Kinta or two, Hugh Low, A. Oldfield, Abraham Hale, Chung Thye Phin, Yau Tet Shin, the Maxwells, J. B. Scrivenor, R. J. B. Clayton, Jack Jennings, the Wearne brothers, A. C. J. Towers, Foong Seong, the Seenivasagam brothers, the Labrooys and the Moreiras, and perhaps others — you get the idea.

    • IKA says:

Yes Ipoh Remembered I do get the idea, but with respect I think your ideas would not make an interesting calemdar.

If I had to look at a calendar picture for a month or two then I would prefer to see stars like Stella Moya, Sydney Sturgess, Diana Wong, Mimi Chu and of course Rose Chan in a couple of poses.

But then again I was always into Chinese girls!!!

    Dear IKA

Yes Ipoh Remembered I do get the idea, but with respect I think your ideas would not make an interesting calemdar.

Well, you might think differently if you’d ever seen Oldfield in tights!
