Remember Her?

To the alumni of NTPS Pasir Puteh: does this (picture below) ring a bell?

The lady seated in the front row is none other than the ‘elusive’ Mdm Chow. How many of you remember her? As SK (our donor) told us, Mdm Chow keeps a ‘low profile’. Nevertheless, I’m sure her students will always remember her dedication and patience in ‘shaping’ the future leaders. :)

  • Mrs Yeoh-Chow Yung Yu, an ex-NTPS JPP primary school teacher whose name & face I never forget to this day, even after nearly 50 years. It was SK who last year first brought her up & confessed to secretly have a crush on her. After him, so many ex-NTPS JPP primary schoolboys including me finally confessed in this site to have crushes on her too[cant tell our wives about this] A truly fine specimen of a woman indeed to stir such emotions on primary schoolboys. Too bad the photo is so pixellised to really reveal her fine features.

  • Hi rosebud and sk,

I just enlarged this photo and all I can say is – yes, she is indeed very exquisite and beautiful looking – just like those Hong Kong film stars of yesteryears, I think she looked like Lin Dai.

    Hi Ipohworld readers,
First let me apologized for the picture condition
as this picture should be credited to Ken Chung Foo Weng for sending to us as his mother salvaged this precious gem from a fiery inferno in his house when he was in New Zealand.
Without Ken Chung, this memento would have been incinerated & all memories gone up in smoke, eternally.
If you want to see how handsome is Ken Chung, he is in this picture standing 2nd from extreme right at back row.
Standing on his right is our our debonair Ole King Cole, Cheah Foo Fooi ( now a doctor practicing in Canberra )
“The Queen”, Tan Chin Beng is spotted Standing Front Row at extreme right and Little Boy Blue , Lai Kok Yoong 8th from Left standing middle row.
On his right is Top Scholar Foong Chun Kwok.
Rosebud, I dont know who has the crush first but look at our elegant Mdm Chow who churned out these fine young men.
I was not at her class but she taught us Chinese, once, as a relief teacher.
I am sure many of these men from her class have excelled in their fields one way or another through her teachings.
Ipohgal, you have a very good pair of eyes.
Like Lin Dai, eh ? Yes & Mdm Chow is very talented
and very kind & hospitable to her pupils.
We wish her well, best of health, wealth, many years of happiness & longevity.
Cheers & hip hip hooray to our Mdm.

    Madam Chow.
She was my favorite teacher and I remember her as always been kind, helpful and considerate
    to all students.
Back in 1964, she gave me a bar of chocolate and also sent me a post card from
Venice when she was on her Western Europe holidays! I haven’t come across any
other teacher since who would do that.
Best wishes and best of health to you, Madam Chow and hope to catch up with you
    at some time!

It came to pass last night that I had a strange dream. I thought I better write it down before
    the vision vanishes.
In the vision, I saw a well decorated School hall
celebrating Mdm Chow’s retirement as a Headmistress
    in an International School.
At the same time, I spoke to 4 schoolboys as mentioned in my earlier post above.
One of them is Top Scholar, Foong Chun Kok and was asking where he was when the dream broke up when I was awakened by my neighbour’s dog bark.
Now let me go back to sleep and find out where they are.

I am so amazed by this, but as I cannot attend the gathering please, please convey my regards and gratitude to her for teaching me so well. It was my good fortune to have met her and be inspired by her, the inspiration carrying me forward all those years gone by. Please also tell her I have never forgotten her teaching and thanks to her and her fellow teachers I have become a successful doctor with a wife and 3 daughters in Australia. Today my one interest in life is to be a good doctor, for the good of the people.
Mdm Chow, you deserve a big HUG for what you did for us all.

To my dear teacher, Madam Chow, I send fondest greetings and best wishes to you. May I say, I remember you and all you taught us during our primary school days in Pasir Puteh. I also remember the weekends, which you invited us to spend time with your kids at home in Fair Park. Those are precious memories.
While I am writing this, I also take the opportunity to say that I would like to get in touch with Ng Tuck Wah. We used to hang out in our Ipoh days. Somehow, we lost contact after secondary school. Tuck Wah went to KL and I, Singapore. Internet, email, facebook, twitter came much later, and both of us were too lazy to write letters. I did see Kok Yeong once and that was it. I left Singapore in 1991 and migrated to Canada. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Tuck Wah please let me know through the blog administrator.

Thanks for informing me about the get together. I am wrapped that finally we know where Mdm Chow is. She is the best teacher anyone can wish for and I have very often thought about her with fondness and respect all these 50 long years. I am sure Heng Hock totally agrees with me as both of us were her students in the late 50′s and early 60′s.

Regrettably I cannot attend the ASI Reunion in April so that I can say a personal thank you to Mdm Chow too at the same time. However I would really appreciate it if you could give her my address so that if she would like to contact me we could meet next time I am back in M’sia. It is really good to know that Mdm Chow is still with us and I hope she is healthy and happy.

    Cheers & thanks

I share the same thoughts as Fong Seng. Madame Chow is one of the most important mentors in my academia journey of life .. in particular she gave me a lot of self confidence when I was in Std 6. But most of all Fong Seng will remember she trusted us with the position of school prefect with all the responsibilities that entails, whilst in her class.
Her love for her profession and the way she cared for her students as if they were her own children is priceless. I am sure you can see from the writings on this blog that the good work that she has done remains with all her students.

Mdm Chow. We shall always remember you.

  • SEMRET SINGH

Will try to look for some of the old photo’s for this site

  • ika

    Hi Semret, welcome to ipohWorld.

We would certainly love to receive scans of your photographs. Almost anything is of interest and if you can scan them at high resolution (600dpi would be fine) and email them to info@ipohworld.org we shall definitely use them.

We look forward to hearing from you.

  • Mano

Hmm..Semret Singh..I believe he’s a gold medallist for the Hammer Throw at the SEA Games. Can’t recall which year though.

  • sk

    Hi Semret Singh,

Just saw your input. Welcome & hope you managed to get some old pictures.
Gold Medalist for Hammer Throw ? Good. Another sportsman
from NTPS. How you wish you can get a RM 2million Gold Bar dangling
like winning a Gold for the London Olympics 2012 !
