One Sunny Morning…

…..these ladies decided to take a walk around Ipoh Town. Can you recognise which road they’re crossing? Anything in the background look familiar to you?

Brewster Road. Shui Kat & Co is a photo studio. Eastern Hotel is at the junction of Cockman Street. No traffic lights then..

Look at that electricity pole or lamp post at the left of the photo. They must have widen the road & have not thought about moving that too. Definitely unsafe for anyone at any speed.

I guess, from the direction and length of the shadows, that the photo was not taken in the morning but around 2pm.

Yes that’s Brewster Road alright. I used to accompany my dad to this photo studio on weekends when I was a kid. The owner of the shop was his friend. It was fascinating watching him touch up the coloured photos with paint & brush. Those were the days before we had ‘photoshop’!

Yes, Brewster Road – from my era! Lovely to see. I am sending Ian a photo of the Eastern Hotel as it is here – designed by my father B M Iversen.
