Where was the Hollywood Hotel?
Nicholas Jennings sent us this 1962 picture of a random street scene in Ipoh. From what we managed to find out, the sign at the top of the three-storey building reads as “Hollywood Hotel”. So, where was this hotel? Is it still around?
Could it be along the row of buildings after the Majestic Theatre towards the direction of MGS? I used to walk to school sometimes and seem to remember a building called Hollywood Hotel but I cannot the name of the road it was situation on.
I dont think this picture is taken in Ipoh.
It is not the Hollywood Hotel in Ipoh that is near the Majestic Theatre.
I am sure this is in Tanah Rata.
Agree with kkfoong. It is Tanah Rata. The small building next to the hotel is the post office.
My future wife (now wife) and I stayed there when we went up Cameron Highlands together for the first time by motorcycle. I didn’t know that it is so old, older than me! Is it still there?
This picture was taken in Tanah Rata. Seen in the background is the Convent which was built on a higher ground.

The building is still there, I have a photo taken in May 2011. But no Hollywood sign! It’s now the Seah Meng Hotel / Kangs.
