Saving Yesterday For Tomorrow
  1. Ipoh Remembered says:

Dear felicia … Perhaps I don’t understand the question. In any event, yes, there have been photo studios on Market Street. For example, in addition to Ngai Sing advertised above, there was Fun Foto, which was on the corner at 13 Market (where, upstairs for a short time, there was also a Christian book-shop, but that’s another story).

Speaking of photographers, I’m sure many know (of) Kok Kin — but I wonder if anyone remembers his earlier locations, as opposed to where the studio is these days …

    • David Cheng says:

Kok Kin Photo Studio started in mid-60s in the corner shop @ Hale Street, Ipoh old town which is now the STG cafe and before that was a pub with live band after Kok Kin moved to their current abode @ Panglima Street.

Hi Ipoh Remembered. What I meant was, does anyone recall there ever being a photo studio at Market Street. The only photo studios I’m familiar with are Chan Sam Lock and Kok Kin…
I’m still ‘learning’ Ipoh’s history…and Ngan Sing is obviously before my time ;)

Yes Kok Kin, Beauty Photo Studio & of course school photographer Shui Kat can remember but not this Ngan Sing. Its in between Sun Seng Fatt Curry Noodle House & K Pharmacy in Market Street. Under google, there is still a sign board – Galeri Seni Lukis Ngan Sing Cheong Kee. Dont know if any relationship with Ngan Sing Photo Studio.

Hi SK. You brought up an interesting point…about Ngan Sing photo studio and the art gallery. Hope some of our experts here can shed some light :)
