Saving Yesterday For Tomorrow

No, they are not part of the cast from the Whoopi Goldberg movie :) The only thing we know about these nuns is that one of them is Rev. Mother St. Jeanne. The question is which one is she? This picture was taken in the 1950s at Batu Gajah Convent…we need your help, Convent Girls!

Dont remember these uniform nuns during my era. Only all whites like in Convent school. Strange that the one on the right had a white veil. Not the usual Not likey worn by Whoopi Goldberg of Sisters Act. She wore one with a square or rectangular headgear . Found out the uniform or Habits have different colours depending on the founders. Mother Theresa wore white with blue stripes which signify a Missionary nun. The veil wore by Julie Andrews did not cover her hairs unlike the Reverend Mother from the Sound of Music. Hardly see any nuns nowadays.

    “Nuns are a dying Breed”

Well, that’s one way to put it, I suppose.

How about the rest of the world ?

In the US, Canada, and Western Europe, between 1965 and 1995 (for example), the population of (Catholic) nuns declined by about 48%. I don’t have corresponding figures for Asia or Malaysia but world-wide, between 1975 and 2015 the decline was about 30%.
