I do wonder why such a beautiful, serene place (above) was named Python Lagoon. Anyway, this 1948 picture (from Marea Smith) was taken at the Kuala Kampar Tin Fields. Marea is the pretty girl in the canoe 😉

Nothing like a swim on a hot day!
We have here a picture which is said to be the Kinta Swimming Pool. As many of you know, this pool has undergone quite a make-over (as stated in the previous blog). More about the Kinta Swimming Club can be found here.

The Kinta River
This is a special request for those who asked for pictures of the Kinta River. The picture above is taken from a 1905 postcard – showing the British residency along the river. The British Resident at that time was E W Birch (the eldest son of J W W Birch), who served from 1904 – 1910.
Here we have some Michaelians having fun. This picture was taken in 1955, and this part of the Kinta River was in Tambun – which was quite a famous haunt for those who wanted to cool off on a hot day!
Notice that back then, trees and shrubs were a common sight; giving any passerby a serene feeling. Even the water was clean, minus the odour and the coffee-colour it has now!

July 1963 Swimmers of SMI
I have just noticed that pencilled lightly on the back of this one is July 1963. Sitting to the left of the brother (as we look at it) with glasses is what I believe to be the same person as featured below under A Champion Swimmer and his Trophys and who we think may be Dr Lim.
Girls and Boys go for a Swim in the River
Again we have an unknown photograph, this time of a mixed group enjoying the cool of the river. Does anyone know who they are, which river are they in and what date was the picture taken please?
