Saving Yesterday For Tomorrow
  1. Shen Ooi says:

I think that the road is Jalan Lahat, in the vicinity of Little India. Having visited my sweet hometown recently, I”m pretty sure I recognise the curvature of the road layout.

  2. Ipoh Remembered says:

Shen Ooi is right, of course. The photo was taken where Lahat Road meets Belfield Street, near the intersection with Patrick Street. The photographer is facing south-west. In the photograph on the right, the wedding car is between the restaurant (visible) and the Birch Memorial Fountain (not visible).

Does anyone know which restaurant this is? Wonder if it’s still there…

The building is still there at what is now 56 Jalan Sultan Yussuf.

As for the restaurant: it opened for business circa 1920 and was there for decades, but it’s gone now.

(If I’m thinking of the right place: the owner was murdered on the premises; he was in his 80s by then.)
