Saving Yesterday For Tomorrow
  1. Ipoh Remembered says:

    As you’ve already discovered, this cenotaph was in KL.

    To be precise, it was at the near end of the old Damansara Road. It was built in the early 1920s. The design was by the Penang-based architectural firm of Stark & McNeill.

    Stark & McNeill also had an office in Ipoh, on Hale Street. In the few years leading up to the design of the KL cenotaph, in Ipoh alone the firm had already designed (among other things):

    1. A new building for Messrs. Whiteaway & Laidlaw on Station Road;

    2. The Oriental Cinema for Leong Fee’s son; and, of course,

    3. The main building for St. Michael’s Institution.

    PS: I looked at the Wikipedia article mentioned above. I’m glad it provides some information about the old cenotaph but was disappointed to see that it does not say who designed it.
