The Kowloon Hotel was one of the premier Chinese nightclubs in the 60s. For the younger set, tea dances were well attended. The Falcons used to play there too along with other famous bands of that time. When the coffee-house craze that hit Ipoh during the 70s, there was this ‘Blackjack’ on the top floor of the hotel. It was popular with the old and young. It lasted till the 80s and eventually all coffee-houses folded up.

The proprietor of The Kowloon Hotel was Foo Khoon Ming. It is now the Ritz Kowloon, under new ownership.
