Last week on the 26th June, I made time for this walk. I was at the railway station by 7.35am, hurting for these heritage walkers. None I could see, except for Mr.Raja, waiting patiently for these unknown walkers. We had some pet chat and local gossips. It was 8.05am, thanked Mr.Raja, went back disappointed, what a waste of my time.
What a good activity in Ipoh town, keep it up to promote this beautiful place, eventho there is only 1 person, i will do my best to promote this to my friends and i will keep myself free one for the saturday to join this, keep it up keep it up, gambateh!!
may be not enough publicity. reccoment to get people who interested to register first. get them together on 1 date.
I agree with Vivien. Surely once a week is far too often. It is not as if we are a great tourist destination – we are not and so you are relying mainly on local people turning up at 8am on Saturday. Not a hope I fear.
Why not make it once a month or by booking the day before or something?
yeap ! every sat is not practical, i think also. maybe once a month, ok la (kot) ! 8:00am somemore…for local people…sorry la nak wakeup & go around their ‘hometown’ at ths time.
registration is important. if not…..poor mr sundra.
& d most important thing is publicity. go all out k !
i ve join ths walk on its 1st program. nice !
I think the publicity of the Ipoh Heritage tour still need to enhance, most of my friends do not know about this tour. I also agree that heritage tour can be reschedule to twice a week or monthly basis, unless upon request. Sun might be better than sat, because saturday is working day for some of the factory or company, Sun might be more suitable, like Ipoh run, star walk also did in Sun, a lot participants involved !
besides that, I would suggest to do the publicity at college or university around perak. As I know, now, there are a lot students from other states, even other country study in college/ university in Perak/ Kinta. Collaborate with College to organized heritage tour as one of the orientatiion activities might be very meaningful.
I will join this activity also, I think this activity is very good, and should continue the effort, i think I will try to ‘publish’ to my fiends also!
This walk is run by Kinta Heritage and the Tourist Association. I shall see if I can get one of them to respond to the above suggestions.
As this walk is conducted by knowledgeable volunteers we are currently only able to conduct the walk EVERY Saturday at 8:00am.
Howerever there is a certified/qualified guide amongst you willing to commit 2 hours of your time on a WEEKLY basis please leave your email or tel number and we will call you.
Please understand that this is a serious commitment on a continuous basis at least the next one year.
“Equally disappointed with the poor attendance and lack of interest by Perakians for the regular Ipoh Heritage Walk. After distributing more than 10’000 flyers, hundreds of e-messages and a fair amount of media coverage.
On the other hand, no one will ever be able to please everybody’s request for the ideal day of the week. Kinta Heritage group feel Saturday is most appropriate.
Attendance by schools, “Know your Hometown – Education beyond the Classroom” It was a promises by YB Dato’ Hamidah that every Saturday one of the many schools in the Kinta district (to begin with) will send a delegation of 30 students. In the past three month we have only seen one school , SMK St Michaels.
It is necessary the education department must be instructed by YB Hamida to send directives to headmasters and principals.
We count on the support of the community, as Kinta Heritage group consists only of a bunch of dedicated volunteers.
The Perak Tourism Association is not involved in the running of the regular walks, PTA was just one of the initiators of the first Ipoh Heritage walk.
Take Care and Always Be Happy
Those qualified guides amongst you, who do not want to post thier email or tel number on this blog, can also email us at:
kintaheritage@gmail.com.
Awaiting your commitment to Ipoh.
Thank you Kinta Heritage for the explanation. It is very sad that the idea of one school per week as promised by our State Tourism Exco has not materialised. But looking back at history so many committments to heritage have not actually been followed through and perhaps this is just another one to bite the dust.
It is a very interesting idea but sad to note that turn out is not as expected. Even I didn’t know about this activity. Just curious is it still on or scraped off?
As far as we know the walk is still on as advertised above.
May I know is this Ipoh Heritage Walk still available or not as I am interested to join. I am not from Perak and it will be a good opportunity for me to see all the historical places and gorgeous buildings at Ipoh.
Yes Cheryl, I have just called the organisers and they confirm the heritage walk still takes place every Saturday, 8.00 am at the Railway Station Main Entrance.
Don’t be late!
Let’s go this coming Saturday. I will use my alarm clock for my wake up call.
See you all there. Ipohite give your support.
Hi,
My family will be in Ipoh for a week. We wish to join the tour on 18 Dec 10. We hope the tour can be conducted on that day. Thanks.
We are not responsible for this tour but we are advised that it will take place every Saturday at 8.00 am from the main entrance of the railway station. The guide will be Mr Raja.
Hi KC the walk is always conducted on Saturday at 8.00am. as stated by ika. It is a very enjoyable and interesting walk guided by Mr. Raja, a friendly and knowledgeable guide.
I went there once and enjoy myself thoroughly with the group of people.

Hey All, I am from Farlim Toastmasters Club. Our club members wish to join this heritage walk on this coming Sat, 7 Apr 2011. Is this event still available? Any contact number I can get to confirm the event? How many people I can bring along for this? Thanks.
Sorry for the wrong date stated above. It should be 7 May 2011 instead of 7 Apr.
Hui Yee, Felicia has already given you the contact on our Chatterbox column, but if the group is not too large then the walk takes place every Saturday morning. Just turn up by 8.00am at the main station entrance where you will meet the guide, Raja. The walk takes 2 hours. Bring hat and water. 12 to 15 people is normally OK, but if in doubt do contact kintaheritage@gmail.com. or call 0125168988.

12 of us joined the Ipoh Heritage walk on 11th June 2011 led by Mr Raja. He was excellent and knowledgeable. Somehow he made its history become alive. This tour is highly recommended A big thank you also to all in the Kinta Heritage Society. Keep up the good work.
It’s a very important walk for all Heritage Lovers. Thanks for the information…..BUT it would be perfect if it is also written in the Tamil language. Please do consider about the indians too!
Contrary to what that had been advertised in the poster, a charge of RM20 is now levied on all participants of the walk.
PT, if I understand it correctly that is because the State Government have withdrawn their financial support. They were the ones who paid the guide, but are no longer prepared to do so.
I just spoke to Mr.Raja, the heritage walk guide, he has imposed the fee since May 2011, it seems that the State Government coffer is empty now!
Sundra and Ika,
I think for the good of all the wording in the poster needs to be amended. Some may go expecting it to be ( verbatim as in the poster) ‘free – all are welcome.’ This will prevent misunderstanding.
I shall ask for a replacement poster from Kinta Heritage who produced the original.
Note: there is now a participation fee of RM 20 per person
Ow, good thing I checked your website & find that it’s no longer free.
Am recommending this to a group of 20-somethings who are planning to go to Ipoh this month. Thanks to this website & the links, I am able to recommend other things to do besides the usual makan & cave temples.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL ENQUIRIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WALK SHOULD NOW BE PASSED TO MR RAJA, +6012 524 2357.
Thanks ika for the contact.
Turned up For the walk today 9/2 but no one there n also no one we asked knew anything about it. Very disappointing as we had a visitor from uk. What is the situation with this walk
Carole, I am so sorry that you suffered this problem, but as far as we know the walk should take place every week. I shall try and contact the organisers and if I manage I shall post something here about the status of the walk.
thanks ika we come to Ipph quite often but usually sat afternoon till sunday so we were quite excited about being there on the correct day and time. the amazing this is that, if as it states this runs every saturday, why does no-one in the vicinity of the train station/padang know anything about it. You would imagine that the guards etc would have some idea of what we were talking about .. but no!
I look forward to your reply
