Where Are They Now?

Nicholas Jennings sent us these pictures some time ago. They were said to be taken around the early 1960s.

Nicholas (with Bintang, the family pet), together with his mother Joyce, his sisters Alison and Christina, and Ramah the nanny.

The  Amah and her 3 children

Nicholas, who once lived at 141 Jalan Abdul Jalil had this to say:

Amah was our house cleaner, while her husband was our cook. My family was extremely close to our servants–they really were like family, especially Ramah (I remember fondly the times that Ramah took our family to her family’s kampong for homecooked Malayan meals). But we sadly lost touch with them when we returned to Canada. It would be wonderful if, through the portal of IpohWorld, we might be able to reconnect with them all these many years later.

Anyone who could tell us MORE about these women, Nicholas (and we at IpohWorld too!) would love to hear from you :)

Amah’s daughters are named Kin, Boon and Wan, as I recall.

Well folks, we also asked the Ipoh Echo to run this same story which they kindly did in their 1st October issue, This morning we received the following via the Echo:

    “dear ian anderson/ipoh echo

my name is cathryn and the lady with the three girls is my grandmother. she is now 97 years old. the little baby, kin, was my mother.

my aunts, boon and wah, were so excited to see this that they were almost in tears. they are still living in ipoh.

please do have nicholas contact me at this email address. my family would like to see him and his family again.

    thank you so much.

    warmest regards
    cathryn.”

Such is the strength of local media and blogs!

Our regular readers will also note that only last week we reunited Nicholas with family members he has never met – in SAUDI ARABIA (see http://www.ipohworld.org/blog/?p=2974#comment-11549). What can one say but “Keep on blogging!”
